On the 1st of September 2014, the IOI-Malta Operational Centre (IOI-MOC) at the University of Malta has organized, at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall on campus, a complimentary screening of two underwater documentaries shot within local MPA’s in an event sponsored by the MED-JELLYRISK project. The screening was held in the presence of the Maltese Minister for Education, Hon. Evarist Bartolo. Also in attendance were over 200 Kids on Campus summer school students, who were handed a complimentary copy of educational material produced within the MED-JELLYRISK project.
The MED-JELLYRISK Project (http://jellyrisk.eu) aims to assess the socio-economic impact of jellyfish blooms and tries to implement mitigation countermeasures against this ever-increasing problem. The project is implementing an integrated coastal management approach within 10 Marine Coastal Zones (MCZs) in the western and central Mediterranean Sea to introduce measures and solutions against jellyfish proliferations. The University of Malta is participating in such a project through both the IOI-MOC and the Department of Biology.
